Samaria Gorge
The gorge of Samaria , with their 18 km of extension, are considered the longest gorges in Europe and offer a variety of impressive landscapes, with a hiking trail that starts at over 1200 meters above sea level to end up at sea level, in Agia Roumeli, where ferries to reach the nearest locations.
Along the way you can see mountain peaks, thick pine forests and pristine forests, crystal clear streams and of course the most spectacular point: Two high stone wall 600 meters shake more and more, until you reach the distance of a few meters at the Iron Gates (Sidheresportes ).
Travel Tips: for visiting the gorge of Samaria is better to rely to some local tourist agency, which provides for the transfer from your hotel to the point of departure to Omalos , then recover to the point where the ferries arrive ( or Hora Sfakion Souyia) and bring you back directly to your starting point. The cost is about 27-30 euro, over the entrance to the gorges (6 euro), and the cost of the ferry (9 euro). Alternatively, you can use the public bus service departing from Chania . The duration of the trek varies from 4 to 6 hours, the trail is not particularly challenging but, given the length, it is quite tiring. Required to wear comfortable shoes and closed.
